Hiking is a part of Deerwalk School’s monthly program, where everyone participates. It is not only for physical health but also a chance for students and teachers to share experiences and create memories to cherish in the future. For this hike, the destination was kept mysterious, which made it even more exciting and fun.

On 13th June, Deerwalk Bharatpur School went on a hiking trip to Upper Dang Gadi in Chitwan with our teachers and school staff. It was an enjoyable and memorable experience as it gave us both physical activity and a chance to explore a place with natural beauty and historical importance.
Upper Dang Gadi is known for its historical background. It is believed to have been an old military watch point used in earlier times to observe movements in the region. Local stories say that during past conflicts in Nepal, such hilltops and forts were used by soldiers for protection and surveillance. Even though there are not many remaining structures today, the place still holds cultural and historical importance in the local community.

We started our journey in the morning. After walking for quite a long time, we all understood why the destination had been kept a secret, it was a very long and tiring walk. However, the trail was surrounded by greenery, small hills, and fresh air, which made the journey refreshing. Along the way, we could hear birds chirping and see beautiful views of villages and forests, which made the walk worthwhile.

During the hike, we also saw small children playing in the village without phones or online games, simply enjoying their surroundings with genuine smiles and laughter. Some were seen carrying food for their fathers working in the fields. This moment made us reflect on how fortunate we are to live a comfortable life with access to education, technology, and basic facilities like hospitals, shops, and schools.

When we reached the top, the view was breathtaking. We spent some time resting, taking photos, and enjoying the peaceful environment. Our teachers also shared interesting information about the place and encouraged us to appreciate both nature and history.

After spending some time there, we began our descent and had our snacks, which were especially tasty as they were cooked over a wood fire, giving them a traditional flavour. After finishing, we continued our journey back. The return walk was tiring, but the overall experience was worth it.
After reaching down, we also visited 20 Hazar Tal (Twenty Thousand Lakes) in Chitwan. It is a beautiful wetland area located near Chitwan National Park and is known for its natural biodiversity. The area is made up of many small ponds and marshlands, which is why it is locally called “20 Hazar Tal.” It is an important habitat for various species of birds, fish, and other wetland wildlife. The place is also peaceful and full of greenery, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and bird watchers. Spending time there felt relaxing after the long hike, as we could enjoy the calm environment and natural beauty.

After the visit, we went to a restaurant for our meal. The food was very flavourful and felt especially satisfying after the long and tiring hike. We enjoyed eating together, sharing our experiences of the day. After finishing our meal, we returned home, ending a memorable, tiring yet fun hiking experience.
This hiking trip was not only enjoyable but also educational. It helped us understand the importance of teamwork, nature, and the historical value of our local places. It was also a refreshing break from schoolwork and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy ourselves.
