On the beautiful day of August 17, fourteen of us gathered together in Deerwalk Complex at 8 am to begin a memorable hiking experience. All of us were very excited for the hike. Our vehicle left the complex at about 8:30 am, and the journey began. After about 1.5-hour long ride, we stopped at Nagarkot for breakfast. We were in big group and had to split for breakfast into two groups. We had tea, selroti, egg and tarkari in the local eatery, and after spending for about 30 minutes, we reached a point from where our actual hike began.
It had been such a long time since I went on a hike, which was enough reason for me to get excited for this adventure. We were a group of 13 hikers. It all started from the base of “Hazaar Sidi”. All of us were well prepared to face the scorching heat as we applied multiple layers of sunscreen and had caps and glasses on.
A hike for Grade XII was scheduled and organized by the hiking club on August 24, 2019. Thinking about the fun and memories we are going to make that day, we had an adrenaline rush. So, we couldn’t be late and we gathered around Deerwalk premises at 8:30 AM sharp. The bus departed at 9 AM with 20 students and 4 teachers.
Last Saturday, I was all by myself at home resting and thinking what to do the next day. All of a sudden, I got a call from Pramod dai in the evening in which informed me about the hike with Rudra dai the day after. Since I had no plans on Sunday, I was excited about the hike. Also, it was my first hike with Rudra dai.
Good thing about living in the Kathmandu valley is that you don’t need to travel too far to enjoy the beauty of nature. After a hectic week there are so many hiking trails where we can go to refresh ourselves in the weekends around the valley. We, the new employees who joined Deerwalk in 2019 decided to go for a hike to Nagi Gumba on 3rd August 2019.
The hikers assembled and the bus was set to move to our destination. It was a gloomy morning with a bit of drizzling rain but our spirits were never fazed by that. We set off from the DWIT Complex right at 7 in the morning. We bought some cucumbers and fruits while on the way. The bus stopped at Balkhu for a quick breakfast which was so tasty that everyone filled their guts with a lot of samosas and puris. Then everyone started getting in their hike zone and started preparing. We reached Taudaha and managed everything and were ready to start.
On July 20, 2019 Saturday, Squad C hike was organized. This was my 2nd hike from Deerwalk and an opportunity to meet new deerwalkers. All the hikers from various squads gathered at Deerwalk Complex at around 7:30 am filled with excitement. We left the Deerwalk premises and started our journey to Jharsing Pauwa, Sankhu our hike destination. We reached to Jharsing Pauwa at around 10:00 am. We had some light breakfast and started our hike at 10:30 am.
It was a fascinating experience from beginning till the end. It is an unusual encounter whereby one feels their body shaking but in a controlled fashion whilst listening to the instruction by the trainer. I did feel a little exhausted but could feel the lightness in my body.
Saturday, July 13, 2019, it was raining in the morning but, looking at the sky, I was hopeful that the day will be brighter and warmer as we had Senior Managers Retreat at Nagarkot. At around 1 PM, Sudeep dai called me to inform that the van was on the way to Baneshwor where I was supposed to be picked up. After 10 mins, the van arrived and the journey began.
Deerwalk Services was never only just about solving Big Data problems. It has been continuously conducting many programs that gives back to the community and one such is DeerClean. About a week before, the formal process for the Deerclean of Squad D began. All employees got invitations and to put their names on the list. 29 people had their name finalised with Gaurab Manandhar as the coordinator. We all were determined to make it successful but yet wondering what and how that Saturday would unfold.
