It was a cold Saturday morning on November 30, 2019—the day for the Squad D DeerClean II. However, it wasn’t cold enough for the volunteers of Squad D to put the effort into Corporate Social Responsibility initiative—started last year by Deerwalk wherein a group of Deerwalkers clean a government school with the goal of providing a neat and tidy environment for the students who are in dire need.
The first flight of my life was really amazing. I was nervous and excited at the same time, and as I kept wondering about my month-long visit, the plane took off. I looked out of the window and saw lights: lots of lights. And the next thing that came to my mind was “America, Here I Come.” It was a long flight, and I had to sit in the same seat for more than 10 hours. Man, that felt like jail.
For the Deerclean on 16th November, our destination was Adarsha Kanya Niketan Higher Secondary School, located at Mangal Bazar, Patan, Lalitpur. This was my first experience participating as a volunteer for Deerclean. We reached Mangal Bazar at around 7:00 A.M in the morning. All the required equipment like aprons, buckets, mops, brushes, brooms, gloves, and masks were brought to the school.
On Saturday, November 9, 2019, Deerwalk Services Pvt. Ltd. organized its annual picnic at Godavari Village Resort. It was a misty Saturday morning at the height of autumn, and as the Deerwalk shuttles lumbered up a worn-out Godavari street, all of us were already giddy with the prospect of the upcoming excitement. When we reached the venue, a mild sun had risen, and the mist was already fading away. A bunch of outdoor patio umbrellas with tables and chairs spread along with the lawn. A buffet table was also laid out in one corner. We kicked off the most-awaited moment with a small but mouthwatering breakfast of tea/coffee, cookies, and sandwiches—ambrosia for our hungry bodies.
On Saturday, September 21, 2019, we, the Deerwalkers of Squad C, got ready for Deerclean. Deerclean is a campaign organized by Deerwalk Services to create awareness about the importance of a clean and healthy environment. This was my first experience in participating in the Deerclean event, and I was really excited about it.
My first ever experience on Deerclean began on a fine Saturday of 7th September 2019. I am not an early bird and waking up early in the morning is a big deal for me but to my surprise, I didn’t even need an alarm to get up that day. As I got ready to leave for the event, I did not know what to expect. Little did I know that the day would turn out to be so beautiful and fulfilling.
It was a fascinating experience from beginning till the end. It is an unusual encounter whereby one feels their body shaking but in a controlled fashion whilst listening to the instruction by the trainer. I did feel a little exhausted but could feel the lightness in my body.
Saturday, July 13, 2019, it was raining in the morning but, looking at the sky, I was hopeful that the day will be brighter and warmer as we had Senior Managers Retreat at Nagarkot. At around 1 PM, Sudeep dai called me to inform that the van was on the way to Baneshwor where I was supposed to be picked up. After 10 mins, the van arrived and the journey began.
Deerwalk Services was never only just about solving Big Data problems. It has been continuously conducting many programs that gives back to the community and one such is DeerClean. About a week before, the formal process for the Deerclean of Squad D began. All employees got invitations and to put their names on the list. 29 people had their name finalised with Gaurab Manandhar as the coordinator. We all were determined to make it successful but yet wondering what and how that Saturday would unfold.
Outing to Sukute Beach was my very first outing since I joined Digital Media Lab. I was pretty excited when I had come to know about the trip. It had been a great opportunity for me to join this trip as I got to know the team very well.
