About 55 km north-east of the Kathmandu city in Sathighar Bhagwati VDC there lies Palanchowk Bhagawati. It is located at an altitude of 1,007m above sea level; north from the hills of Panchkhal. The religious temple over there is one of the most beautiful and most important Goddess images of Nepal.
Nineteen miles north of Kathmandu closer to the Tibetan border lies a small village of Nuwakot. It is one of the untouched Newari townships from the late 17th century. Nuwakot Bazaar is a centre-piece of the Nepalese story; from shaping of far-flung tribes and of trans-Himalayan races into a unified kingdom as Nepal.
Sundarijal named after the Hindu goddess Sundarimai, is fifteen kilometers north-east from the Kathmandu valley. Sundarijal is very famous for Canyoning and Canyoneering. It is taken as a gateway for many hikers going towards Chisapani. The region is also rich for its extraordinary collection of flora and fauna, untouched by modern life. Namo Buddha is a historic place, where Lord Buddha was believed to have offered his flesh to the starving tigress so she could feed her cubs. Now there lies a Stupa, a Monastery with retreat center, higher studies of Buddhism.
The northern part of the Kathmandu Valley rises to the sprawling forests of Shivapuri. Unlike other suburbs of Kathmandu, Shivapuri has remained untouched because of its surrounding significance. Shivapuri is located in the country’s mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and is named after Shivapuri Peak. At 2732m Shivapuri is the second highest point, and one of the last areas of woodland left, on the valley. Likewise, the panoramic views of Kathmandu valley, Langtang and Mustang, and the mighty Manaslu provides a visitor a glimpse of the remoteness and the grandeur.
Leaving aside a few settlements from kathmandu, a hike trail through forests lead to Chisapani, one of the hilltop at an altitude of 2375m. Chisapani provides excellent short tramp which is renowned among hikers. It is situated on the top of a tall ridge with commanding views for almost 360 degrees where the place opens up and the panorama unfolds to give us a sweeping view of the stunning, unending and seamless Himalayas.
