The significance of Tom Brady’s injury.

For over six years, the New England Patriots have sat atop the NFL throne. For six years, New England fans have been enjoying the success brought to them by their powerhouse team. For six years, they have watched Brady throw bullet-like touchdown passes and how he made it seem so effortless to lead his team to a come from behind win with only 2 minutes left on the clock. These memories and 3 Super Bowl wins have been unrivalled this decade. But in just one second, New England nation fell into despair as they watched their star Quarterback fall to the ground, clutching his knee in pain. As a fan, I was absolutely devastated. The chance for Brady and Moss to avenge their previous Super Bowl loss went down the drain, as did any other hopes regarding the 2008-09 NFL season.

Here we are, almost a month into the NFL season, watching every one of the New England games like any other NFL fans would. Now, New England fans have been brought back down to earth. Now can they truly realize what it is like to be a fan of all the other 31 NFL teams. Gone are the days where almost every game seemed like an easy win. Gone are any chances for another perfect season. For now, we will have to watch every game while holding our breath, knowing that each win won't come easy.

The original poster is not old enough to recall the Patriots of the 90s, who ranged from dreadful (1-15) to superb (AFC Champions). He may also be forgetting that similar “devastation” was felt when Drew Bledsoe went down in the second game of the 2001 season. That injury allowed an unknown, untested quarterback to take the reigns. That quarterback was Tom Brady. In the NFL, more than any major professional sport today, success is fleeting. Enjoy it while it lasts, because you never know what the next snap brings.
