Tired of cocktail parties, D2QA decided to do something different this quarter. The team building event (hillock-hike, hilarious events, funky dances, chilled beer & yummy delicacies) took place at Dhulikhel; far from the maddening crowds, for a change.
We left D2 for Dhulikhel on a hired bus at around 8:00 am, picking our colleagues on the way. We were caught in a traffic jam at Thimi for over an hour but we killed time by playing Antakshari. Some stretched their legs by walking through the jam. We had breakfast at Banepa and reached Dhulikhel at around 11:00 am.
Leaving some non-hikers at the Himalayan Horizon Resort, we hiked to Devithan, atop a hill. The view from the top and the cool breeze were refreshing. Some played carom against the soldiers stationed there and won. The D2 battalion conquered.
Drinking and Singing:
By 1:00 pm, we were back at the Resort and we kicked off the afternoon with drinks (Carlsberg; Beefeater Gin with Tonic Water; Juices) and snacks. RaviS played his guitar (beautifully, people, beautifully…) while others sang to his lovely tunes. AwanishR, BikeshS, LavaK, PrashantaS, RashmiP and ThakurG were the lead vocalists. Timro tyo hasilo muhaarako… Jhajhalko jaba aaundaa … aanshu kaa dhaaraa bahana thaalchhan…
SangeetaR organized a couple of exciting events that not only added to our fun but also helped in knowing each other better.
SudeepKh caricatured ‘Haribansha in ‘Lalpurja’ and won the first prize. “Office jaane belaan vai sankyo lugaan ta sukekain chhaina rainchha…”
BinodP, the Joke Server of D2QA, cracked a few hilarious jokes and bagged the second prize.
AwanishR sang ‘Kehna Hai’ by Kishore Kumar and won the third prize.
SubinS ran, ran, ran, ran, and became first.
ManikM ran, ran, ran, and became second.
Others also ran but they did the dancing more than the running.
AbhishekS, blindfolded, played the ‘Chyaanbaa… hai…Chyaangbaa…’

ShankarS and SanjeetB meowed, hugged each other the fastest and won the first prize.
SubinS and AvaA represented fox and stood second.
The short hike in the morning was not enough. It barely ruffled a few muscles. Our bones now needed some stirring and so we danced. Dhuk chuk Dhuk chuk Dhuk chuk and Yeowwww. We danced so much and for so long that we had our lunch at 4:00 pm instead of the scheduled 2:00 pm. For some, even that dancing was not enough; they did some cart-wheels right on the dance floor.
After the hearty lunch at the resort, we returned to Kathmandu. But, before boarding the bus, there was one final event of the day: The Lucky Draw. AwanishR, DeepakV, JyotsnaS, SushmitaP, SanjeetB and SubinS were the lucky ones.
We hope all, inclusive of non-drinkers, present in the D2QA’s Day Out had a blast of a time and brought back some delightful memories from dear old Dhulikhel.
