Corporate Football – Goethals Alumni vs D2

Posted by: Prashanta

Anupam scored a spectacular bhale goal as D2 came from behind to win 4-3 in a tight match played against the team from Goethals Alumni. In a match played in an unusually small-sized ground, D2 had no problems regarding stamina and created some problems from wide areas, especially from Sajan on the left and Asim (on loan for the match) on the right.

But Goethals soon took control of the midfield with their quick slick passes and exploited D2’s weakness at the centre to get two quick goals and took a lead of 2-0 within the half-hour mark. The score could have been worse if not for Navin, who made a spectacular reaction same immediately after coming in as a substitute. A low shot from Goethals managed to penetrate the crowded defense and was goalbound before the D2 goalkeeper, diving to his left, instinctively blocked the shot with his right foot. D2 soon started a spirited comeback inspired by a goal from Asim. The goal was followed by a sweetly taken free kick from Sajan and a brace from Bhanu as he neatly struck the ball across the goalkeeper and into the net after a series of good moves from D2.

The second half was mostly an end-to-end stuff as both team failed to keep possession of the ball and resorted to long clearances which landed right into the opposition area due to the short length of the field. Goalkeepers from both side made some spectacular saves as both teams failed to convert their chances. The score was tied near the end, however, after the ball fell into the path of a Goethals player which he slid past the D2 goalkeeper and the match ended 3-3 during the normal time. The teams decided to take the match to the golden goal and, after a few scoring opportunities from both sides, was decided by the Anupam’s strike. Asim, arguably the best player in D2’s midfield, shimmied past a couple of Goethals defenders and passed the ball to Anupam who struck a fierce shot into the roof of the net from about 15 yards.
