Wendell Phillips noted American abolitionist once said “Physical bravery is an animal instinct; moral bravery is much higher and truer courage.”

If you can’t recognize the HERO in this picture and wondering what’s happening there, then I have to give you the prologue first.

More than 20 hours had past and rescue squad consisting of Nepal Army, Police, Trekkers and Locals were frustrated and tired. Even after their continuous effort, attempts and re-attempts they were not able to rescue two and half year old girl, who had fallen in narrow gorge some 60 meters down below the ground. [gorge of Seti river in Pokhara, Nepal].

Then our Hero “Kamal Nepali” comes forward and volunteers himself for the rescue operation. Not knowing what lies ahead into that dark and mysterious gorge. Rescuers saw the hope as his body was small enough to crawl deep inside the gorge. But some objected pointing at his age and size, but our hero was determined and he insisted. He was the best available option left there.

After half an hour into the unknown, Kamal appears with the girl. Mission accomplished, he SAVED LIFE that day. Crowd cheered and applauded, everybody including girl’s father hugged him, and there was tears of joy everywhere.

Next day I read two liners in Newspapers, “Teen saved girl’s life”, my personal view is we should not be stingy on writing about this HEROIC act. This should have been FRONTPAGE News if I would have been an editor.

Scene for the movie Enemy at the Gates:
Stalin’s envoy Nikita Khrushchev comes to Stalingrad and warns a group of Soviet political officers, “If the Germans capture this city, the entire country will collapse.” Khrushchev demands suggestions as to how to motivate Soviet troops to stand up to the Germans, and Danilov proposes, “What we need are heroes.” “Do you know any heroes around here?” asks Khrushchev, to which Danilov replies, “Yes, Comrade, I know one.”

Don’t you think even NEPAL needs many HEROS like Kamal, at this juncture of time??

We, the organizers have not only donated our hard earned cash in different outlets at different times, but also thought to bind diverse team members who have contributed in our teams directly or indirectly via Partying which is the strongest phenomenon these days. Please refer to http://ingeniousinterplay.com/

Namaste!

We would like to invite you to a cocktail party at the Tian Rui Chinese Restaurant & Bar at Thapathali, Kathmandu from 6:30pm onwards on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.

Please find the direction to the restaurant attached with this email.

On behalf of Bhaskar Bhattarai, Bimal Koirala, Kundan Khanal, Lava Kafle, Raj B Thakuri, Sharad Pokharel and Subodh Gurung

Yours Truly,

This email composed by Vishnu Kshettri was sent to whole set of teams that were during part of corporate life involved directly/indirectly in some of the projects.

Extremely sorry to say, for many of friends and team members we got :

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:	Wednesday to live for!
Sent:	6/10/2008 8:28 PM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached

and we feel sorry for typing wrong email address and for not being to call unofficially or verbally. We were negligent there. We will improve next time so nobody from organization misses such parties.

Anyway, it was a big fun with many new games played. Many Proposals and rejection offers were heard. Many were crying to release the pain and many more were laughing to release the excitement of the party. As soon as Thakur Gyawali entered the party scene, it started getting hotter. Other missing teams started jumping in who had to finish their jobs before joining the party. There was a huge hullabaloo. All started peeking in to see what happened inside the circle.Raj Thakuri won the game and got chance to propose to a Princess by becoming a Knight. Hitesh Karki became the Knight and proposed to another Princess by kneeling before her. We were mesmerized by this new play seen first time in the history of get-together and parties. It continued as the night slipped by and the moon started to shower its charismatic spell on party-makers.

It was a great opportunity to bind diverse teams into one place at one time and to recognize many faces previously unknown.

Many did not make to Party even though they received invitations.

Vishnu and Prashanta Shrestha had booked the place on Tuesday to make plenty of time and room for us.

The Chinese Cuisines were superb lest we are not used to the food quality of Chinese daily. The International Standard place, beautiful garden, and the rooftop with all are seen below in photographs that are not Edited at all.

Please right click photo, Save and put a comment on which photo you liked or disliked based on the photo number. If some volunteer is available, please put nice caption alongside.

It was a lucky day for Nepalese as the former King Gyanendra at last left his big Narayanhiti Palace making room for federal republic. The pictures below show eve of the moment when there will not be another such sunset, and the Statute of the First Shah Ruler of Kathmandu will never again witness his inheritors staying in Narayanhiti palace. “Narayan” is Hindu God’s name and “hiti” means water spout.

Question: Will China ever give a damn about some Amnesty International in Nepal protesting about its system of capital punishment?
Answer: NO.

Question: Will the gathering amassed by the Amnesty International Nepal at the Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu - with colourful banners and placards - ever make China think about its policy? Will China now consider reformation of their current ruling system which, as the media has reported, violates human rights?
Answer: NO.

More…In the future, China might (hopefully) - but that won’t be out of sheer pressure created by shows and protests like the one AI-Nepal did.

For now - my rant is about the nice looking, glossy and shiny booklets that were distributed by the Amnesty International Nepal during its program. My rant is about the colour placards, banners and caps those participating in the program were holding and wearing.

Those don’t come for free and they are truly expensive.

Anyone with half an ounce of “intelligence” will never believe that the bosses at the AI-Nepal paid for the expense from their own pocket. They were protesting against the Chinese system, why the heck they would fish money out of their pockets? We Nepali people (or generally anyone else in the world) do not spend our personal money for this kind of “social work”. No way.

Is not that a waste?

Misuse of “donated” fund is a violation itself - unless people related with AI-Nepal actually donated their personal money to protest against China. The thought of which sounds as inconceivable and ludicrous as the news about King Gyanendra contesting in the Constituent Assembly elections (1).

Does not that mean the AI-Nepal itself violated human rights?

Firstly, the program itself looks so irresponsible and foolish that even a five year old kid will have a nice laugh out of it. Secondly, that kind of expense - and for doing what - protesting here at Maiti Mandala about the Chinese system?

Just imagine how many plates of Mo:mo (2) one could have bought for those poor and hungry people from Susta(3), who have been forced to live under the Bagmati Bridge for over two months. Or the AI-Nepal could have bought rugs and clothes for those poor people down there. Instead, it wanted to prove through “media” that it cares about human rights in the international level by wasting its “donated budget”.

I really do not know what the AI-Nepal has done in the past, been doing or will do in the human rights sector for Nepal. I do not know if the donor countries, organizations or INGOs themselves approved this sort of show.

Nevertheless, that was a PURE WASTE!

——————

1- As we all know, the elections for the Constituent Assembly is all set for April 10, 2008 - and on completion, Nepal will be formally declared as the “Democratic Republic of Nepal” and the “King”-ship will be officially abolished. And no, King Gyanendra is not contesting in the elections.

2- The thought of which is really making me hungry.

3- Susta is one of the villages in the border-area of Nepal and India. For years, the people of Susta have been claiming that India has periodically encroached the border and out of sheer frustration and atrocities laid upon them by the Indian border security forces, the villagers of Susta came all the way up to the capital and organized sit-ins and protests in front of the Singha Durbar gate. But, the government turned its deaf ears to their cries and anguish - it had many other serious issues to take care of.
It was the month of winter and while the villagers were here in Kathmandu, they could not find any place to live and eventually were forced to take the refuge under the Bagmati Bridge. Once, a television channel showed a report on their living condition down the bridge. Many were seriously ill; they did not have anything to sleep on, nor had anything to eat and apparently completely broke to return to their village.

Tower Bridge, Central London

Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, England over the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London and is sometimes mistakenly called London Bridge, though London Bridge is in fact the next bridge upstream. Tower Bridge is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the Corporation of London.

In the second half of the 19th century, increased commercial development in the East End of London led to a requirement for a new river crossing downstream of London Bridge. A traditional fixed bridge could not be built because it would cut off access to the port facilities in the Pool of London, between London Bridge and the Tower of London.

Is there anything on the news about a large, bright sparkling star in the heavens? I've been following a star (could be a planet, maybe Venus) towards the east for the last 30 minutes. It's 5:38 am right now in Kathmandu. Over the last 30 minutes, the star travelled an eye distance of one foot (which could be thousands of miles) on a 45- degree angle to the right. It got smaller gradually and dimmed into the veil of the morning atmosphere. It was at a verticle 30-degree angle to the east (from a sitting position) and went up to about 75 degrees slightly taking to the right in 30 minutes. It was amazingly big and sparkling compared to the other stars in the neighborhood - could be a planet or a passing asteroid. Let's see if it shows up tomorrow also. I thought I'd share this experience. Any astronomy enthusiasts here - maybe you have a clue?

Pardon my excitement about this.

Help Nepal Network (HNN) was established in 1999 by the Nepalese Diasporas living in the UK and the USA. The team kicked off the campaign with one dollar and one pound in the starting days. Today the HNN has spread its arms to 12 different countries including Nepal. HNN from the very beginning has been involved in health and education sector in Nepal. Please check the www.helpnepal.net to further dig into the social works done by this wonderful organization.

Today i.e., September 28, 2007, Vishnu Kshettri, the Office Manger, presented a sum of Rs 50,000 to the President of HNN, Mr. Arun Singh Basnet. Mr. Basnet candidly expressed his satisfaction and gratefulness to D2 Hawkeye for helping them in its journey. He further went on to explain that the sum provided by D2 will be used in social activities primarily providing non-food item to the needy ones. He said that the HNN will be buying a family pack (famously known as bags in the NGO circuit) and providing them to the people who direly need it. Such a bag consists of clothes for a family, some utensils, a tent to house in etc. I personally was happy to find that a small contribution by D2 was going to provide livelihood to the needy ones. This Corporate Social Responsibility effort initiated and continued by D2 will definitely help the communities in various parts of Nepal to prosper. A special gratitude goes to each and every D2ites involved in the act and especially Rudra Pandey who has led this initiative in full fledged form.

Prashant Tamang has won the Indian Idol competition. It is 1:21 am in Kathmandu at the moment and Nepali brothers and sisters are celebrating this win emphatically - I hear roars, whistles, fire crackers bursting in the neighborhood. I congratulate Prashant for having won the competition and wish him all the best in his job and singing career.

All of us should deeply think of our priorities at this time. For those who are hell bent on dividing the country on ethno-political lines, this is a reminder that Nepali unity is still unchallanged. Nepal is incomplete and unimaginable without this unity. Let us all stay united in solving all our problems, rather than playing blame game and polarizing the country on ethno-political lines.

Furthermore, let us all realize that we should not only pride ourselves that a Nepali descendent has won an Indian competition, but also utilize this unity and solidarity to do something important for our naiton. Let this be a moment where we all come together to think deeply of where we want to take Nepal at this historical juncture.

Long Live Plural Nepal!

Here we go again. Monarchy violated the land’s law, killed thousands, looted the nation and kept country hidden from the world for 200 years. The so called current crown prince killed a poor Nepali on drunk driving and we do not know how many he killed that we do not have record of. The so called King dissolved the elected government breaking the law and suspended the constitution spitting on the face of 30 millions Nepalese. Now, we need constitution to remove the disease called monarchy out of our bodies? Whose rule is this? Is this India talking or Girija getting hyperactive by over-dozes of steroid? I think this is Indian play in Nepal. They always favor dictator in Nepal so that they can do little Bagh-Chal (goal-tiger game) whenever they want. Look at the timing, Indian special envoy Shiva Shankar Menon came to the town and Girija finally spoke up “Kingship cannot be trashed before the CA decision.” Why does he want to wait for that? It clearly signifies Girija, UMLs and even Maoists are being played by Indians. If not, I should see Prachanda’s party quit the government as two of his main demands have been denied by Girija. Who the hell is Girija to have power to say so? Indians have asked communists to shut-up and Girija to speak-up. That’s what happened this week.

What a calculated move by Indians? The ignited the Madhesi group and weakened the Maoists. Once the Maoists were out of Terai region, they signaled the Terai group to calm down – which the latter did. They will now coordinate alliance between Girija congress and Terai group and further weaken the Maoists. It is not likely that Maoists will have more than 15% of seats in CA, majority going to Girija and Madhesi group who support the King on Indian’s direction. Remember, if you want to have control in other country affairs, the best chance of successfully doing so is one of your moles in power circle there. That’s what the post-CA King will do if Indians successfully reinstall him. Let us hope this does not happen.

During this week’s hearing at Parliament sub-committee, there were reports against several ambassador nominees. The most noticeable one was against Suresh Chalise who has been nominated as ambassador to USA. According to a woman petitioner, Suresh had series of sexual interaction with her at a hotel near Sukhedhara and currently she is three-month pregnant. He also took a million rupees from her assuring her of U.K. visa. She has now neither the visa to go to U.K. nor the money - all she has got is unwanted pregnancy. Suresh allegedly is running away from her. An e-mail was sent anonymously as women in Nepal do not disclose these kinds of things in public. Many politicians and their close aides seem to be taking advantage of this close culture.

We have to see whether Nepal government takes this allegation seriously or not. This is open in major news channels in Nepal. This kind of hypocrite should be punished and Nepalese in USA do not want this guy as their ambassador.

Similarly, there were several complaints against Shailaja for extending her support to the royal regime during people revolution II. Shailaja denied all allegations during the hearing.
