Beyond Geeks, Deerwalk Annual Fest

Sanket Shrestha

The date was “11-11-11″ and it became significant because of one more reason. It was the day we celebrated very first Deerwalk Annual Festival “Fallwalk”. After Ashay kick started the show, our Executive Chairman Rudra Pandey gave his presentation to all employees of Deerwalk to let everyone know where we stand right now and where we are heading in coming days. He believes success should always be measured by number.

It was the day we celebrated very first Deerwalk Annual Festival “Fallwalk”.

He picked three metrics revenue, no. of employees and no. of clients to give glimpse of the progress achieved by Deerwalk as compared to last year. As compared to last year, the revenue of Deerwalk is increased by 164.28%, the employee count has gone up to 100 from 30 and our team is working on projects of 19 different clients as compared to 7 at the same time during last year. Then he gave overview of our products Everest whose first version was released on October 25 and Makalu which is scheduled to be released this November. He wanted his every employee to know about our core business. So, he talked about our business line which he has divided into three categories: Healthcare data cleaning and mapping, product development services and reporting and analytics services. Base upon current growth rate, he visualized that both the employee number and revenue of Deerwalk will be doubled by next year. He was really excited when he shared his vision with everyone. He also gave everyone the information about mutual benefit Deerwalk can have with collaboration with Deerwalk institute of technology. He shared the CSR activity which Deerwalk is planning to do in coming days. He is planning to open Deerwalk’s clinic for not only Deerwalk’s employees but also for people living in surrounding area. Finally he ended his speech by reminding everyone once again that company is company because of its employee and urging everyone to learn, enjoy and respect each other. After that celebration in celebration height began with skits, songs and dance performances by Deerwalk’s employees. All in all, a great day.

Ishan (Emcee)

It would have been lot different if I were alone on the stage but Rachana Shrestha and Jagir Maya were wonderful as co-hosts and helped me pick up the crowd with gusto. Initial jokes by JT and KRP also aided to set the tone for the rest of the night. The fun started flowing before the individual and group performances when Ashay Dai talked about “Happiness” and Rudra Dai talked about “Openness”. Each performance was unique and excellent at the same time. Surendra Dai’s parody songs, Rubina’s genuine voice, Deepak Dai,s energetic dance, Suraj Poudel’s imprompto MJ medley and the Drama were the highlights of the evening for me. The overall programs went along smoothly and the organizers did a great job. I cherish the moments that I spent on the stage as an MC.

MC – Jagir Maya Rai

The Annual Fall Walk 2011 was an exciting event. The tone of the event was set by the inimitable duo of Jeevan Timilsina and Kanchan Raj Pandey by their wise cracking jugalbandi. The very funny mimicry of various personalities by Kanchan ji brought the whole house down. For me, to host an event for the first time and that too for such a big event was itself a challenge. But fortunately my co-host, Ishan Gajurel was an experienced host emceeing many events prior to this. I just have to take his lead and respond to his cues. Emceeing is an art whereby you have to gauge the audience mood and perform accordingly. Ishan did a great job, sometimes teasing me and other times cracking jokes to entertain the audience. There were lots of exciting events as well as awards for special categories. The singers, the dancers and the drama people made the evening unforgettable. The entire program went off well, albeit a little behind the schedule. I am very sure that the next year the event would be in even grander scale and vision.

Rosina (Organizer, Dance)

The clock ticking to 2:30 and the fun parts of coming to office started. The initial days of the dance practice was great fun because it gave us time-off from the busy schedule of works. It gave us some time to be on our own and have the freedom to spin, roll and dance with the tunes of the songs. The time spent on the practices were awefully entertaining time spent in office hours. We used to be drenched in sweat practicing the dances, but still felt good about dancing, the excitement of the fest would take us to a different world. But,

as the deadlines and the work pressures started to coincide with the practicing schedules, it started to become a hard time for me as an organizing committee member.

as the deadlines and the work pressures started to coincide with the practicing schedules, it started to become a hard time for me as an organizing committee member. There came time where the dance teacher came and called me and I had to go to everybody’s desk and gather them and present to the dance teacher so that the practice can begin. But, all the efforts made, became fruitful when the presentation day came. All the dances went really really good. Was it the regular practices, or the enigma of the costumes that gave the lively performances. Everyone were dazzling with the glamour of the traditional costumes. The dances were glamoured effortlessly with the spirit of teamwork.

Rachana (Song)
Even if I have less time for singing preparation, I finally made it. Since my song “Suvakamana Bhari” was the first item, I was sort of nervous but I’m glad that the audience cheered up! Literally I don’t know how I did but feedback was not that bad. The second song “Kattar Kattarma” with Surendra dai was a comedy song. I’m pretty sure this has refreshed the viewers at least for a while. Each character of this song was just awesome, the mother, the daughter and so called a guy who finds himself an eligible bachelor. The only sad thing was I had to color my hair grey to turn out to be a worried mother of a young girl. I’m thinking audience was happy but was I for my getup?

Renu, Biman (Spectators)
A lively entertaining event with so many vibrant colors all around and stunning performance one followed by another. It was spectacular event with a comedy act as a show stopper. Ashay Dai started with the welcoming speech and greeted the audience.
And the mind blowing speech of Rudra Dai about the past, present and future of the company was really awesome. His words were the source of motivation for the beginners, like us in this field. No words to explain about the performers and the hosts of the program. It was only because of them the chilly cold night of November seems to so hot and marvelous. As the night goes darker and darker, the gratification of the program goes deeper and deeper. But the advent of giant villain “Time” was the main hindrance for both viewer and the performer. As a whole the program was Fantastic with lots of Fun. And the event ended up with Snacks and rocking dances on the Dance Floor.

Credit must be given to all the coordinators, emcees, performers, musicians, choreographers and the technicians who gave their best to make this event a successful one.

Kanchan Raj Pandey/Sunil Ghimire (Drama)
We didnt had a proper theme for the drama. Rupesh came up with this new idea about deusi bhailo program. Whole team worked really hard to make drama lively despite tight working schedule. We had total 8 members namely Sunil Ghimire, Sagar Maharjan, Deepak Karna, Kanchan Raj Pandey, Jeevan Timilsina, Rajan Maharjan, Nitesh Maharjan and Suvas participating in drama. This is an experience for us and we are really excited to perform better next year.

We were exited, thrilled and frightened at same time to perform drama. Though most of the performers were sharing stage for the first time we performed well and got a lot of appreciation. The script was straight forward and short. We had never performed the whole drama even in rehearsal. Most of the dialogues were on spot and also figured out that we had made some mistake. Limited number of microphones, absence of curtain on the stage and proper light system was challenge to us. But as soon as the drama started no one felt the necessity of these things. It was really a flavor of the Fest with full of comedy.
