Do pictures speak?
By: Pawan Shrestha
"Put yourself in someone's shoes" is a common phrase. But it is not a common thing that we do everyday. We are, most of the time, self-centred. Especially in this modern, fast-paced life. It is only when we stop for a moment and give our time to others, that we realise the true meaning of empathy.......

Glimpses of New Year 2064
By: Vishnu Kshettri
On April 13, 2007, Bimal, Abhishesh and I set out to capture moments of the eve of Nepali New Year 2064.
Starting from Narayanhity Palace, we scoured Durbar Marg for picturesque instances. I had been to Durbar Marg on several New Year Eves earlier but the experiences I gathered this time was very different. We ended the Eve at Thamel after covering Jamal and Kantipath.

Hiking Tips : American Hiking Society
If you are looking for a workout, hiking offers an opportunity to break a sweat. The level of excursion, however, might not be as high as most other exercises. Regardless of the exercise element, the mental health benefits of hiking are well noted. Life can be hectic and stress can build up without being noticed. Hiking is like taking a timeout from life. For that purpose, I used to participate in D2Hawkeye’s hiking whenever I can.

The sky is a nice place to be. I like to fly up there whenever possible, watching the life below.
Today's a fine day; the late night rain has washed down the haze above the ground. Fresh air, clear sky, warm sun upon the hills, I bet some groups will be out there getting ready for a hike. The early morning fog might be a little disheartening, but it will soon be blown away by the wind.

Tri-Chandra College - Education History of Nepal
By: Administrator
Jung Bahadur, the first Rana Prime Minister of Nepal opened the first school, named as Durbar School in Kathmandu -1854, to provide basic education to the Ranas and the family members of the ruling elite. After Jung Bahadur, Bir Shumsher in 1883 declared it open to the general public. At that time the School Leaving certificate/Matriculation used to be governed by the University of Calcutta, India but after 1934 the Nepal School Leaving Certificate Examination Board began conducted the SLC examination in Nepal itself.
Chandra Shumsher, the Rana Prime Minister, established Tribhuvan Chandra Intermediate College now named as Tri-Chandra College in 1918. The history says among the Rana Prime Ministers, Chandra Shumsher was the one of Prime Minister who opposed any form of higher education in Nepal the most.

Tri-Chandra College behind the Ghanta Ghar
Tri-Chandra College was modeled on a typical Indian college and affiliated to Patna University, India. In the early days of its inception classes were only for subjects in Liberal Arts. The faculties of science and commerce were later added in 1919 and 1954 respectively. The lecturers and professors were hired from especially from India and other countries. Graduation Examination was governed by the Patna University itself, Tri-Chandra College being its first examination center Nepal. At that time the Graduates passing out from the college were in high demand and were largely inducted into government services and/or in the teaching profession.
The establishment of Tri-Chandra College built the base for higher education in the country. Following the foundation laid by Tri-Chandra, colleges were established within and outside the Kathmandu Valley. With these developments, people had access to higher education in Nepal and marked the beginning of the expansion of higher education in Nepal.

Shimla Trip
By: Tejaswee Sharma
Every time I see hiking photos in Everest Uncensored, I really feel jealous of those snapshots. I try to search myself in those pictures. Where am I? Where the hike am I? Sadly, I have missed all those special moments. I really wish I could do some hiking in India as well but, unfortunately, there is not a single hill around for miles from the place where we are located.
Nevertheless, we went to Shimla where we got to stretch our legs somewhat.
Friday, 26 January, was declared a holiday ...

Corporate Football - D2 vs Goethals Alumni
By: Prashanta Shrestha
Two quick goals and a superbly taken free kick sealed the victory for Goethals Alumni as they got even with D2 to overcome the earlier defeat at home ground with a 4-2 win here at IOE football ground. Although they started cagily in the Pulchowk ground that was at least twice as large as their home ground, Goethals Alumni soon picked up some passes at the midfield exploited the defensive frailties of D2’s makeshift defense to score two successive goals inside the first 30 minutes.

Surendra wanted to take this short cut to Bhandarthumka
Arduous is the word that best summarizes the hike of last Sunday. It certainly pushed me to the extremes of physical and psychological limits. It asked many questions of me. Focus, will power and sheer physical stamina were put to a severe test. There is always a limit to everything, that which, must be honored. However it is always nice to flirt with one’s mental strength and chip away small pieces of confines. A small victory of mind over matter, resolve fulfilled and deep sense of satisfaction.

Corporate Football - Goethals Alumni vs D2
By: Prashanta Shrestha
Anupam scored a spectacular bhale goal as D2 came from behind to win 4-3 in a tight match played against the team from Goethals Alumni. In a match played in an unusually small-sized ground, D2 had no problems regarding stamina and created some problems from wide areas, especially from Sajan on the left and Asim (on loan for the match) on the right.

Corporate Football - TUN vs D2, second leg
By: Prashanta Shrestha
A string of goalkeeping errors was the key as D2 players succumbed to another disappointing 4-0 defeat in the second leg against TUN. It was a lackluster first half though as both team failed to create any clear-cut chances. D2 appeared better organized than the previous encounter as they managed to keep some possession and contain TUN to very few shots on target but the front pair was unable to make any impact on the opponent’s half. D2 resorted to hopeful long balls at the front which kept ...

Corporate football - TUN vs D2
By: Prashanta Shrestha
D2 started its corporate football league with clash against Tundikhel United, the team formed three years ago when people from various areas of interest started practicing together every week in the Tundikhel ground. Having been formed only a year back D2, on the other side, lacked enough match practice as they tumbled to a 4-2 loss at IOE, Pulchowk ground against the more experienced side from Tundikhel. It was an entertaining match though, played between two halves of 35 mins each, with goals coming in at frequent intervals. D2 appeared to be more organized at the beginning and took an early lead capitalizing on the mistake of the makeshift goalkeeper Samesh Joshi. The goalkeeper was completely deceived by the bounce on the hard and uneven ground of Pulchowk and Asim was on hand to head it home.

Destination Kagati Bari (Lemon Field)
By: Administrator
Vishnu asked me to narrate the hiking trip we had on Sunday, December 03rd but I am not the most creative writer in the world, even during my college life I used to avoid writing classes as much as possible and used to take Technical courses.
Any way, after spending many years of convenient life-style in one of the most developed country in the world, the USA, where I had been living/studying/working for almost fifteen years. Now, I am back to my own homeland, my sweet motherland where I had taken my first step and spoken my first word.

This is not a painting.

THE MOST EXCELLENT: Godavari to Lamachaur to Lele hiking
By: Administrator
For this week, the Everest Uncensored team chose to explore around Lamachour via Godavari. The number of the hikers had increased to 19 including 2 ladies. The team disembarked at Godavari and had heavy breakfast in preparation for the tough climb ahead. Then the thrills through narrow trails in the woods began. They huffed and puffed up a hill with tales of tigers and geishas.

The thrills of anniversary hike: Phulbarigate to Nagarjuna hill via Raniban
By: Administrator
Sunday, November 19, 2006. It was the day on which the Everest uncensored team was setting out for its 52nd adventures around the valley at high altitude. The team had chosen Phulbarigate to Jomacho to Phulbarigate route for the day’s hike. In comparison to others, however, the route was shorter but no less thrilling. This time, we have chosen to post what the team mates felt about this hiking, the 52nd.

The wonders of Matatirtha - Khadpu – Pharping hiking
By: EverestUncensored Correspondent
It has been wonderful experience for the Everest Uncensored (EU) team to explore the thrills around the Kathmandu valley at the high altitude. In its adventures, the EU team has experienced the rural set up and its contradiction with the so called modern and urban life in the Kathmandu valley. Our team mates have experienced that it was a sort of achievement in the life. The team has visited not only three districts of Kathmandu valley. But the team has also walked up to Kabhre, Sindhupalchok, Makwanpur and Nuwakot districts.

SuryaBinayak to Lakuri Bhanjyanag to Godawari Hiking
By: Administrator
This week, the Everest Uncensored team had planned to make the hike shorter and easier in contrast to the regular hikes. So the team started from Surya Binayek thinking we would end the hike at Lakuri Bhanjyang climbing down to Lubhu. When we reached the Country Kitchen Resort at the Lakuri Bhanjyang we had a little rest thinking the hike was coming to an end. However, after taking some refreshment at the resort some of our team mates desired to ascend further. We all agreed to go further towards Godavari.

Okhreni to Chisapani to SundariJal Hiking
By: Administrator
Last week, the Everest uncensored team wanted to explore the natural beauty of Okhreni. It is a bhanjyang (pass) lying approximately at the altitude of 2000m above the sea level. From the vantage point of deurali, the northern ridges of Phulchowki range can be seen rising from Panauti along the banks of Roshi and the trail from Sundarijal to deurali at Okhreni village is one of the best that the north of Kathmandu has to offer. The mountains Langtang (7246m), Dorje Lakpa (6988m), Dome Blanc (6830m), Gan Chenpo (6397m) are seen at the north. A mane (shrine of religious significance) can be found at deurali presumably constructed by Lama Priests. Furthermore during the month of Chaitra, it is said that a religious fest is organized. At the bhanjyang, there is an expansive lawn aptest for a camping ground. However a solo endeavor is not recommended due to ample stories of cattle being dragged by tigers and leopards from the Shivapuri National Park. Not to mention wild boars that can give a good chase when provoked.

The Time for Illumination
By: Binaya Neupane
The festival of lights; TIHAR is one of the most sparkling and shining festivals of Hindus. The festival symbolizes for the wealth, light, prosperity, and peace; as we worship “Goddess Laxmi” and different appearance of the “Yama”. Throughout the fete the entire Nepalese house, village, cities and country itself will glitter with the decorated lit oil lamps, candles, electric bulbs etc. The night view of the Kathmandu in the day of “Laxmi Puja” is the view never has to miss from the top of the city; “swambu stupa” looks like a sparkling precious bowl.

Kakani toTarkeshowr to Panchmane Hiking
By: Administrator
On October 15, the team had planned to go for a short hike from Raniban to Jamacho. They were, of course, unaware of the fact that the army had closed the area down. This was a blessing in disguise, however, as the team headed towards Kakani for a hike that would be longer, much more interesting and much more fun – and not just because Kakani is associated with JAITI, which, in turn, is associated with bhaam majja.

Lumbini - World Heritage and an abode of peace
By: Binaya Neupane

Pancha Sila in Nepali: Five point principals advocated by Gautam Buddha
Lumbini (Sanskrit for "the lovely") is a Buddhist pilgrimage site located in Rupandehi District, Lumbini Zone of Nepal near the Indian border. It is the birth place of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism and preacher of world peace, who lived between approximately 563 BC and 483 BC. Lumbini is located 25kms east of the Krishnanagar municipality of Kapilavastu, the place where the Buddha grew up and lived up to the age of 29. Kapilvastu is the name of place as well as the neighboring district.

ChanguNarayan- Telkot- Nagarkot Hiking
By: Administrator

Report : Indra Dhoj Kshetr
Caption : Vishnu Kshettri
Dashain days had begun. It was the last hike before Dashain vacation on second day (Dwittiya) of Dashain. All the friends were in refreshing mood. So a shorter route and easier destination was chosen for the hike. It was really a refresher hike. Nagarkot is the hill town on Bhaktapur district, lying at the altitude of around 2000m. It is the nearest tourist destination from the valley and is famous for viewing sun rise. A black topped road leads to the town from Kathmandu via Bhaktapur.

Panauti to Naya Gaon to Fulchowki to Godavari Hiking
By: Administrator
Fulchowki is the highest peak among those surrounding the Kathmandu valley. It lies at the height of three thousand meters. It is like a gateway to the world from communication perspective. Nepal Television, Radio Nepal and Nepal Telecom uplink and downlink their signals from here. The tall tower stands gloriously, towering to the sky. It has a motorable road to Kathmandu via Godavari. And trails lead to the peak from various parts of Kabhre as well to the hikers.

बि.पी. संग्रहालय
By: Yalamber Tamot

I’d been reading BP’s “जेल जर्नल” and GaneshMan’s autobiography (sorry, I do not even remember the title right now) when we started hearing about “BP संग्रहालय” being opened for public on the media. I was more interested to see what the authors saw and not really interested in the museum itself, but my Dad dragged me along to see a part of the origins of these creations. It was his idea that I read these books in the first place. I had taken up on his suggestion realizing how little I knew about Nepal and our history in general and in the hope that it would help me with my Nepali. These are only few of many books my Dad exposed me to since I returned back to Nepal that I am bringing up here in context. So, I took Dina didi’s camera (which she has been very kind to lend it to me while she is out there in the US) along with me, loaded it with a black & white roll, and went along with Mom and Dad to see this place that seemed to get a fair amount of public notice at the time. So here we are. This is what I saw.
