Abandoned Website
By Nischal Dahal
While googling i suddenly stumbled upon a website addressed as http://www.nepalmonarchy.gov.np. I could not stop myself from getting my mouse hover and clicking over the link. It seems like the site was abandoned after update of proclamation to restore the house of representatives on Monday 24th Apr 2006. The site contains informations about the “Gaurabmaya Itihas” shah dynasty and in some places gives the credit of existence of Nepal to the shah dynasty overlooking all the sacrifices of the ...

My indulgence with happiness
By Hitesh Karki
Thanks to my carelessness, I have been berated and scolded numerous times from all sorts of people, especially the dear ones. I am not punctual, not tidily dressed up, and often not affected by what is supposed to be a serious matter. There has hardly been a day where I have managed to get things proper and straight without much fuss. Remembering dates is something that has always let me down and yet, I must admit, I have hardly managed to recover from this habit of mine. Too many people have ...

पाप खोज्न मन लाग्यो
By Kapil Raj Pandey

Rafting in Trishuli: Been There! Done That!!
By Shreeya Shakya
It’s been a week since we, some 27 colleagues, had taken the raft and battled the raging rapids of Trishuli on 20 May 2007, Sunday and memories of it still inject adrenaline in our blood stream. It was my year long desire to go on a raft and I had been pestering Prashant for quite some time to arrange a rafting session. Finally it was May 20, when we boarded a bus heading to Charaudi, the starting point of our rafting course.

Legal Wife and Legal Life
By Rajendra Keshari Pandey
I wonder from time to time why people are so concerned about mere words such as: legal, illegal, moral, immoral, good bad, nice and not nice. My personal view is these words themselves are irrelevant; it all depends upon our own logic and necessities to suit our interest. What suits you is right and what does not suit you is wrong is the general tendency among people. It is like looking at half a glass of water, some see it half full, and others see it as half empty. Both are correct in their ...

Sweating Deities and Impending Doom
By Dhaniya
There is a statue of Bhimeshwor in Charikot, Dolakha. The statue is unique in that it can excrete bodily fluids. Sweat, at least. The statue sweats in anticipation of some impending doom – mostly some misfortune to be visited upon the royal family but not limited to it. Last time it sweated was during the April Uprising. Before that, it was the royal massacre.
Over the weekend, the statue perspired again. Something is up around the corner.
I am not superstitious. But to any loyal ...

My filmmaker friend
By Hitesh Karki
It's almost like the airplanes. Every time I watch them flying, for reasons unknown, I just can't take my eyes off them, till they disappear. I am sure I would be pretty much right if I were to say that the sight of planes landing and taking off is something we all have liking to, either by accident or choice. But then I am not here to eulogize the pilots or the airbuses but another breed of fascinating people called the filmmakers. Its a different story that every time I watch a particular ...

Are Beauty Pageants All ‘Indecent’?
By Amit Pyakurel
Habitually, as in past, this year’s Miss Nepal pageant yet again faced shrill protests from some ‘pro-women’ groups and leftist party advocates. The women outside the pageant hall were loudly shouting that the ‘right’ of women was being dashed as the participants are ‘objectified’ in such events. However, the instance looked rather ironical, as non other than the ‘women’ who were participating in the pageant seemed to abide by ...

Federal or Unitary ?
By Kiran Chalise
We all know that the federal and unitary systems are the types of democracy and each system has its own merits and demerits. However, we have to go for our country-suited democratic system where all people can enjoy their equitable democratic rights with dignity and opportunity.
Federalism also refers to as federal government, a national or international political system in which two levels of government control the same territory and citizens. The word federal comes from the Latin term ...

A LETTER TO MY MUM
By Anup Sharma
Mum asked what you doing love; she said “I am changing mum”
“The mundane life is making me numb”
She wants to show what she got, so she changed
With the tears in her eyes she left
Whom she loved is now in her womb
At 18 she already feels like in a tomb
All she did was crying and lying
Why did she do it? Now she is prying
Her eyes are dry and the tears are gone
Everywhere she goes she has to shun
“Mum I’m changin'...hope you'll get me
Sick of this life I want to be free
So I’m gone, say my ...

Memories of Days Past – V

Memories of Days Past – IV
Following the winter break of fifty days, regular classes of grade ten resumed in full swing and with it crept in the haunting fear of S.L.C. I wanted to pass S.L.C. in first division, at least. Only about two to four percent of students from Padmodaya were able to secure first division during those days. At that time, I could not dream of anything beyond S.L.C - I had no idea of what I would be studying a year from then and which college I would be attending.

मेरी अनलाइन साथी
By Sadhana Sharma
- Sadhana Sharma

Do pictures speak?
By Pawan Shrestha
"Put yourself in someone's shoes" is a common phrase. But it is not a common thing that we do everyday. We are, most of the time, self-centred. Especially in this modern, fast-paced life. It is only when we stop for a moment and give our time to others, that we realise the true meaning of empathy.......

Blocking the Truth…
By Rajendra Keshari Pandey
I am a fan of Cartoons, proverbs and parables; in very simple ways they can express the bigger picture. Rajesh K.C.’s cartoon published in the Kantipur Daily was a beautiful example. There he refers to the inefficiency of Nepal Telecommunications distribution of pre-paid mobile facilities to the public, by depicting “Door Sanchar” as “Jhoor Sanchar” = Bad Communication. He says craftily “13 percent VAT and 30 percent Lathi.” This is the power and beauty of Cartoons. ...

Communal Radio Creates a Word of its Own
By Sanjib Chaudhary
Just now I bumped into a petition created by D Subba on 27 April 2007. I was fully unaware of the news. And ask me, it was totally a RIDICULOUS teaching and the teacher was one of the RJs of Radio One FM 94.3, Kapil. According to D Subba, in a programme called Learn New Words with Kapil, the Radio One people translated 'night watchman' as: night means 'raat' and watchman means 'Gorkha'. ...
