Aboriginal Awakening
By Dovan Rai
A designer inside me that would creep out as careless doodles, crafty cards, and amateur projects got chance to get professional only after a sweet co-incidence.
It is not ironical but obvious that today when the world is getting inside the storm of design, here design is still not a serious career option in schools.
Today, internet is a common arena and everybody competes with everybody.
This is a great chance and an equal challenge.

Why only Saturday night gossip?
By Rudra Pandey
I was attending a small gathering last Saturday evening. Bunch of Nepali friends either working or studying in Boston area were present. You know what goes on when Nepalese get together for a couple of drinks - Men talk about politics and women, they have nothing else to talk about but shopping, their boyfriends or husbands. Sometime, I see some bozos being praised by their women like they are the messiah or winner of all times. Good for them. And there are some women who always want some more from their men. They are too ambitious and nothing is good enough for them. You can guess which one of them you are and which one you want to be. Good luck in figuring this out. Let us switch gear to men as I am not woman psychologist and I consider woman as the most complex creature in the world. Like all other Nepalese men, I want to talk about politics. Talking politics and doing nothing about it and letting bums lead and destroy the country seem to be in Nepalese blood. Like my Saturday night friends, many of us love to talk about nation development and politics and criticize those in the leadership stereotypically. Each one of us considers himself to be the best. We think if we were given opportunities we would lead the country like FDR led the post-depression United States. It is always easier said than done. Maybe, we should analyze why our leaders have have failed time and again. Is it because the job is too difficult? Is it because leaders are really bums? Or is it because the very political system we have in our country is crappy?

A tribute to empathy
By heretic (Aashish Dutta Koirala)
I am currently twenty-three; and for most of the short life that I have lived, I have considered myself as being or at least wanting to be cold and emotionless – driven by extreme focus and hard, rational logic. Human emotions, I have held, were what our species was cursed with during genesis. For some reason I cannot fathom, I have always disliked humanity as a race and thought of it as pitiful at best. Consequently, I have been steering away from people in general. I have always been fascinated, however, by human behavior and the way the human mind works. I have never admired it, though.

Horses and pessimism
By heretic (Aashish Dutta Koirala)
As far as day-to-day life is concerned, I would like to think of myself as an optimist. I am a follower, however, of the philosophy of pessimism. This means that on the global or universal scale, I am a hardcore pessimist. I do not believe the major problems that the world faces today will ever be solved. I firmly believe that things, on the whole, will get worse; and that the human race was doomed right from the moment it was created.

Anger in the Streets, Once Again
By Daulat Jha
It hasn’t been long since the historic moment when an autocratic despot kneeled down before the people. But the streets are aflame once again. This time it is the political parties who are the target of the anger.
It is frustrating to see that with the sacrifice of the thousands injured, 22 dead, and 38 disappeared people (all official estimates), once again we seem in not much of a better position than where we began.

Let us set God free
By heretic (Aashish Dutta Koirala)
No one can trace the history of human civilization so minutely that we can conclude exactly when it was that people, as a race, decided that they would trust a very smaller group of people to tell them how to lead their lives. Ever since that moment in time, however, the human race stopped being a marvel of nature – a climax of evolution. Ever since that moment in time, people stopped being God's creatures. People became sheep – herded ever so easily by a select few with the might to do so. One event in human history that stands as both a cause and an effect of this phenomenon is the birth of religion. That being said, the object of this text is not to denounce religion, or God – but to call for disassociation of the former manmade concept from the latter natural presence.

Why Politicize the CIAA?
By Ishwar Khatiwada
It is disheartening to know that some of our recently re-instated members of parliament are demanding removal of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority’s (CIAA) chief Surya Nath Upadhyay. These are the same political leaders who were indicted with massive corruption and irregularities and brought forward for prosecution by the CIAA. Political leaders ill-conceived motive is simple- replace Mr. Upadhyay with their henchman, come out unscathed from the previous corruption charges and enjoy a new, lavish political life with illegally amassed means. It is a matter of less concern of who will replace Mr. Upadhya in the agency, but a fundamental concern on politicization of CIAA for personal and political gains. Such acts from any responsible side- the government bureaucrats, judicial, and the police, not only severely weaken our institutions but also threaten our national liberty. Besides, these are the same leaders, who during 2000/2001 voted to give CIAA more power and autonomy. If they have had a full-knowledge that their own creation would go after their crimes in the future, most of them would not have voted in favor of empowering the CIAA then.

Silent Tihar
By Shreeya Shakya
I had written the following article about 2 yrs back and am posting it here as the emotions still stand firm even today..
The government prohibiting crackers and deusi after six this Tihar was indeed a welcome gesture amidst the deafening chaos smiting the nation lately. Though deprived of the excitement of firing crackers and playing deusi, Tihar this year was dedicated in remembering all the ‘bhai’s lost in the battle both from ally and rival side, in peace. Though intermittent crackers were heard around the valley, this year Tihar incandescent with diyos and adorned New Road with its aura filled with enchanting incense was a silent affair. Without an exception, my Tihar was also silent. However the cause of silence was not the government prohibition but rather a biological phenomenon considered as a taboo. I was having my monthly menstrual cycle during Tihar and I was deprived of the excitement that Tihar brings to us just once a year.

Deconstructing Girija
By Rudra Pandey
I am infuriated by the appointment of Ram Sharan Mahat as the finance minister. By appointing a person who has miserably failed thrice in the most important portfolio of the country, Girija has insulted the Nepali people. It is a clear example of Girija’s inability to break the circle of bad guys who unequivocally bow down to him. He does not seem to have courage or the interest to give an opportunity to a newer generation that has radical ideas.

I Want to be Proven Wrong
By Rudra Pandey
I haven't been very optimistic about the possibility of the Maoists joining the multi-party democratic system. If they do, I will be the first one to salute them despite their past actions. However, I also want them to apologize to the people of Nepal who suffered so much due to their cruel and inhuman acts. I am pleased by the announcement of the three months truce offered by the Maoist. Could it be another Maoist ploy as they very much expect the seven-party government to reciprocate immediately? We can’t ignore that.
