Nepal Bandh: A Failed Strategy

By Rudra Pandey

March 16, 2006

I was in Kathmandu from Jan 25th to Feb 13th and situation there was very disappointing. God bless the patience we Nepalese have!

Things remained closed for seven days and we did not do much. Rather, we took these things as a part of life. It was difficult for me, maybe because I have grown used to the way of life in the United States over the last 10 years. The people here would not put up with these kinds of things for even one second. Demand for Ambitious Undertakings

By Rudra Pandey

No doubt, Nepal, sooner or later, will find such leaders who will find a way to introduce ambitious plans and policies for the nation. Let us hope we see that soon. What could be such ambitious undertakings?

International Concern - Child Labor

By Rudra Pandey

March 13, 2006

Child labour has become one of the most widely debated and controversial issues in the international labour market today. It affects almost every aspect of life in developed, developing and underdeveloped nations. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), at least 120 million children, between the ages of 5 and 14 years, worldwide did full-time, paid work in 1995.

Surya and Baadal: A Tale of Two Personalities

By Rudra Pandey

बुझ्नेलाई सिरिखण्ड नबुझ्नेलाई खुर्पाको बीड …

This popular Nepali proverb means, in other words, that if you have a diamond, it is only worth something to you if you recognize its value and put it to good use. If you don’t, the precious diamond is as good as a piece of rock. I learned this and many other pieces of proverbial wisdom when I was growing up in a small village about 20 kilometers outside the Kathmandu valley. I remember many small incidents from my village life. Back then, those ...
