Babas’ hike
- Vishnu Kshettri
If we take some time out of this busy and hectic life style sometimes, we get an opportunity to peep into the insight of different meanings of life. I learnt this from the adversity that we faced on Saturday night stoppage at Maidan, many many miles away from home and from this busy, materialistic yet scintillating world. The stoppage let us share the commodities with equal mind and soul of ten different individuality. The whole journey is still lingering in my mind, and keeps poking out in my mind as one of the many mysteries of life. This was only possible because of the journey that compelled us to go through the equal hardships while we were measuring our inner empathy together last weekend.
Chautara, the head quarter of Sindhupalchowk district was a starting point, where we reached in the midday on Saturday. With the starting altitude of 1420 metres we began to hike up.
One hour of ascending, we reached at a place called Bench Pani. Another next one hour of stride took us to a place called Shyaule, where locals were curious about this bunch of urban dwellers. During the chit-o-chat, they offered us with a handful of pears. Some of them generously peeled off the skin of pears for us. In exchange, Rudra handed them some money.
pleasant air soothed our skin and mind, entered us into a pleasant state.
After having those freshly picked garden pears, we continued our journey. Next couple of hours of stiff climb, we arrived at Sano Okhreni. One small tea shop owner, a Sherpa family was keen to hold us for a while. But we still continued our half known journey. As we kept climbing, the pleasant air soothed our skin and mind, entered us into a pleasant state. But as the dusk approached us, it was clearly indicating the dark night that we had to go through. We kept pushing hard and got into a place all hovered with clouds.
The walk through this village led to narrow jungle trail, with low visibility due to the cloud and upcoming darkness. The trail was really challenging for one and half hours of struggle, with the plenty of leeches’ to keep us busy, raining and slippery trail. With drained strength, the exhausted body finally happened to be at one of Sherpa house, the place called Maidan had only 3 houses of Shepa inhabited. They offered us with some corn pudding (dhido) and the raw radish which had come straight from the fields. They left us to celebrate our dinner. When we finished our dinner, they fitted us inside cattle shed with 6 small blankets for ten people and hay weaved mattresses. Our back pack, we used as pillow.
On the way back to Kathmandu, we stopped at the Zero Kilo, had lunch with city taste. Deep down, a thought crossed my mind that the lunch of Zero Kilo let go the diversity in us with option it offered yet it missed the harmony and contentment and the magic unseen tie that held us together in Maidan.
It is said that mind is like parachute which works well only when it is open. It became more apparent to me last Saturday with all those new experiences of its kind to last for days and days to come.

Subash - I like your attitude. You sun shine. It’s one of the rarest opportunities to see you in style. Luv you Baba, all of sudden you seem disappeared from such outings, not good, have fun. BhaskerB, you look to be losing your being Nepalese charm and your accent getting towards west day by day. Bhanu, you look snapshot of classic. By the way, I have never been in Canada I miss though.

Vishu dai! It’s a beautiful report. I take pleasure reading the ‘Life’ you savor and wish I can take a plunge into your thoughts and taste the deeper wisdom you have from being so close to nature. I can feel the joy and adventure you all have had there in Sindhupalchowk. Indeed pictures are full of wonderful memories, though they are technically not so sound.
Long live D2h Hiking!!

Thanks ShutterBug for catching the bug the shutter of fellow cameramen.

We all are GOD: rich or poor eating meat or potatoes like you did in sindhupalchowk chautara maidan , all are GOD.
See! Whatever you see in this world, this has been seen practically since your birth. However, it was only after the first 3-4 years of your life that you began to recognize and acknowledge these people as yours. These people were not yours before and will not be yours after death. In due time nothing will be recognized. This recognition has taken place only for a few years in between, but as such these were all unknown to you a few years ago. That which you meet and which later departs, it will not stay with you. It is all Bhagwaan’s (God’s) lila (divine play).
Sometimes a dog appears, another time a beggar, another time a friend, another time a lover and on and on. As such you are not related to anyone, and as such you are related to all. Do you remember which country you were in before birth? Which family? Which town? What language? This is all surface glue (temporary). It is all part of His lila (divine play). Some of them are coming and some are going. Simply don’t get attached to them. See it as only a divine play. By considering them as yours, you will get trapped. They are not yours. Neither the house, nor the property, nor the family, nor the things are yours. It is only His divine form (swaroop). And all the happenings are His divine play (lila). These things keep happening! What is there to become happy and what is there to become sad? It is only Bhagwaan (God) and it is only His play!
There was no association before. The same will happen with this life. There will be no association after death. It is His play. Do not get attached. Do not get entangled in this play. The great rare souls do not get entangled. They recognize His divine play “Vasudeva Sarvam iti sa mahatma su durlabh” (Gita 7/19). You can become that rare, great soul. It is only Bhagwaan (God). Everything is Bhagwaan. There is no yours and no mine. Sethji had said that this world is Bhagwaan’s (God’s) form (swaroop) and that which is going on / happening is His divine play. By labeling something as yours or mine, you are getting entangled. There is no yours and no mine. This delusion, this ignorance, this infatuation will trap you. Become engaged in God and realize that nothing is mine, then you will not be trapped. If you get trapped then how will you be set free? This body, these clothes, these hands, this mind, everything is Bhagwaan’s. At all times see Him (Bhagwaan) and at all time experience His lila (divine play). That one Bhagwaan (God) alone has become everyone.
Bhagwaan became everything and everyone. He alone has come in all these forms. Knowing this remain blissful. Become happy !!! It is His lila (divine play). Some are being born, some are getting married, some are dying, some are playing, some are crying, some are laughing. We have no idea about who is going to live, who is going to die etc. “Vasudeva Sarvam”. All are Bhagwaan (God). The mistake has now been clarified. It has been rectified. It is His divine play. Dying is also a play. Living is also His play. There is nothing to learn, nothing to study, nothing to do, only accept Vasudeva Sarvam (Gita 7/19) All is Bhagwaan. It is rarest of all souls that recognize that All is Vasudeva (God). It is an extraordinary soul. In Bhagavad Gita it is clearly stated and it is the best of all spiritual disciplines.
Now remain joyful! Some are crying, some are sitting, some are singing, some are happy, so on and on … All are His divine forms. There is nothing but bliss! Be blissful. “Mein aur maur” is “maya”. There is no mine, no yours. It is only Bhagwaan. If you have doubt, ask! Simply accept! At all times remain alert! It is Bhagwaan! Besides God there is nothing else! He has come in so many forms. Knowing this, become ever blissful. This is said for bhakti yog (Path of Devotion). That loving devotee is “jnaani” who recognizes that everything is Bhagwaan (God). There is bliss and only bliss, thereafter. Even death is a lila (play). God says I am “sat” and “asat” both. “sat and asat aham eva”. It is all Bhagwan. It is an extraordinary lila. There is nothing else besides lila. There is nothing to cry or be happy about. There is only joy in both sickness and in health. There is joy in everything. It is amazing!! Waah Prabhu Waah. “Glories be to You My Lord”. It is just like “raas lila” (None other than Bhagwaan dancing with each and every Gopi). It is only Bhagwaan (God). There is only bliss. Become joyful! Become blissful! Do kirtan and become blissful. Bliss and only Bliss” (anand hi anand). Become immersed in His bliss.

Don’t hate those people who are perky and efficient after only a few hours of sleep. They can’t help it. New research suggests that a genetic mutation may explain why some people sleep less.
Researchers don’t know exactly why some people do fine with as little as 4 hours of sleep a night, while others need 12. “We’ve believed for a long time that there’s a genetic basis,” says Paul Shaw, a neurobiologist at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. But scientists have only recently begun to ferret out which genes are responsible.

you guys took pears along the way and ate apples in your lifetime:
1. Choose apples that are less prone to browning. A study found that Arangeh tend to brown the least. Granny Smith and Golden Smoty apples also showed minimal browning. Golden Delicious apples were in the middle, and Red Delicious apples browned the most.[1]
2. Cut the apple underwater. This keeps the enzyme from making contact with oxygen. Keep the cut apple in the water until ready to serve.[2]
3. Coat the exposed flesh in acid. By bringing the pH below 2, the enzyme that makes the apple flesh turn brown is deactivated.[3] Here are some acids you can use:
* Ascorbic acid, better known as vitamin C. Look for it in the canning section or pharmacy as powder. Apply directly or dissolved in water (1/2 tsp. per 2 1/2 cups of water[4]).
* Lemon or lime juice. It’s not as effective as ascorbic acid, but it’ll do in a pinch, and they’re more readily available. The juice can be diluted up to 3:1. Lemon juice will have a less obvious taste than lime juice.
4. Blanch the apples. This will denature the enzyme. Let the apple sit in boiling water for one or two minutes, then rinse with cold water. They can then be eaten, frozen, or used for apple pie.
5. Cover exposed apple flesh tightly in plastic wrap. This will work best if you have half an apple (as opposed to pieces). Try to keep the creases on the exposed side to a minimal. This technique has allow to keep the air away from the apple flesh to prevent the the apple flesh from oxidizing.
6. Soak apple pieces in a slightly salty water solution for a few seconds. Remove and enjoy white apple pieces for a considerable time. Works well if you’re adding apples to a fruit salad.
