Description:
Home is the place where a child begins to learn. There is a saying that parents are the first teachers of a child. There are many cultural practices in Nepal which I really like. One of them is Basanta Panchami or Saraswati Puja. Here in this picture a Father is holding the hands of a child. He gifts the most valuable gift that a child can ever have – Education. I specially like this picture because the child is a girl child. I think it is significant in a country like ours where still many girls are deprived from right of getting educated. May light of education and wisdom spread in every corner of Nepal.
I took this picture one year back in Swayambhunath.

It’s a beautiful picture. Lucida you have captured ‘a loving bond between a Father with his child’ very well. My thumbs up not just for the picture but also for the description that has stressed more on girl’s education.
Looks like this picture got rendered with ‘lighting effect filter’ to draw viewer’s attention towards the center (father and the child) which I think is not necessary because the whole composition tells more on ‘Saraswati Puja’. The auspicious day when children get introduce to reading and writing. Every Nepalese parents help their children to chalk down alphabets around temples walls, stones slab ..etc wishing their may children become wise and knowledgeable.

Dear Shutterbug, thanx for you nice words. You always comment keeping pisitive attitude, which I like. And ya regarding your query, I haven’t used any kind of filter in this picture. THis picture was shot early in the morning and light was beautifully coming from behind that tree. But ya I’ve shaded off gradually at the edges to give a vignette effect. In fact I don’t apply any Photoshop tricks in pictures except what a Photojournalist can (like dodging, burning, Brightness/Contrast etc.)

Nice theme lucida!!
Would like to add something on what Shutterbug said:
Every Nepalese parents help their children to chalk down alphabets around temples walls, stones slab ..etc wishing their children may become wise and knowledgeable…..(i append here..)And not resort to wall paintings for campaigning their ideas all over the city wall when they become adult (especially if they become politicians..haha)

Lovely catch of the moment. We should be proud of such cultural practices.
