Design – it is just an appearance and nothing to do with company revenue focus on the functionality of product to exactly match the targeted users’ requirements.

Design – Innovating the treasury out of the functionality which is possible only by the Designer having zeal, lunacy, and bravado to make every thing alive resulting the revenue times your art of science.

Design usually considered in the context of arts, media, engineering, architecture, technology and creative endeavours. It refers to the process of developing and inventing a process, plan, and solution for a product, structure, system, or component. Or in other words; Design is the processed and planed solution or the result of implementing that solution which generate the result of the process; as revenue.

I got a chance to work as an Asst. Information Architecture cum Design Lead in one of the leading company after arriving U.K. on the 2nd of August 2007 under the guidance of Mr. 35 years experience in nothing but GUI Design. Ah! Not much but times four than mine.

Ideally should have min divided three knowledge but that is what makes the difference east vs. west.

Designing normally requires the designer to consider the functional, aesthetic, source of income, popularity of the uses, and many other aspects of an application, system or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, knowledge, modelling, interactive adjustment, user persona, guts to re-design again and again from scratch.

I am lucky to be a part of the system where majority of people think that design is the process, system, culture and art of doing that so can take many forms and ways of doing it depends upon the application, modules, architecture, technology and creativity. Where as the philosophy of design used to be … “what? Does design makes any sense at all? Just focus on functionally” where no one cares about adding a live in functionality.

I am biting my finger between my teeth in August the 08 2008 when I came to know my effort has added more than 350 thousand revenue exclusively because the design and look and feel of the application is changed. It was that simple to implement the 2+ magical mantras (i.e. always focus on the value, the uses and its cosmetics) which took me and 5 more team of mine 4 month of research, 3 months of concept wire frame, mock-up design and functionality production plus the final 4 month of implementation.

My point here is not to shout on what have been done but the perception, attitude and dedication people has trusted upon patiently and the guts to take risk in business. I admit there was a tiresome but effortless research because of the experience and the knowledge they have gained so far, but still a year of planning and dedication to change the look and feel only. Isn’t it makes the difference between the design in east and west.

In East: Anyone can do it attitude because design doesn’t make sense at all and has no meaning at all employers don’t think it will impact the companies revenue.
So less risk less money 

In West: Only especial one can do it attitude because designer need zeal, lunacy, and nerve to change the companies revenue.
So more risk more money 

So what I experienced after a decade of my design career? Not much!!! I should say, “You should come out of the box to be the Designer; and that box should be in west”.
