187. Cultural Display-Ongoing Jatra at Sankhu

Jatra at Sankhu occurs every year, 5 large statue of god and godess are brought on large palki by people from Bajrayogini hill to main sakhu bazar.Those 5 godess are carried by people and roamed arround the city.This jatra will last one week more. So, interested ones can still be a part of this traditional event.

Jatras are really amusing to watch and participate. Really interesting, the mob may get wild at times. Where’s the chariot here?

Yes we are so rich in culture and Jatras like above in Sanku is great opportunities for photographers to capture its richness. I know capturing great shots of such Jatra is not an easy thing. You need ample energy and prejudgment for a good spot to shoot. Experiences do counts in this regard.
Anyway, Nischal I prefer this picture should have taken from high vantage point, to include detail of chariot (Palki), people who were carrying the chariot and the whole euphoric crowd. Next reason is to avoid those commercial banners (Cigarette and Durga Library) which have polluted this picture. Picture is also slightly overexposed. Try Manual program mood, I bet you’ll amaze yourself. Sony DSC- H5 does have that option.
